Bringing a Knife to a Gunfight

Sometimes I look at a sprue and a weird idea for a conversion will come to mind; that's how this one came about. Simply put I'm using a knife to make a gun. Ridges on the bottom of the big Catachan knife just struck me as reminiscent of the grips on the hand guard of an assault rifle.


I cut the barrels off of a Catachan las-carbine, then cut the blade to a nice rectangle. Then mash everything back together. Add a scope from your bits box, and there you are.


Hmmm... now maybe Marbo's Pistol?

The cargo hold interior, doors, crew and cockpit were painted prior to assembly, then I masked off the doorways and cockpit before painting the exterior. Everything was primed black. The exterior was basecoated with Bestial Brown, then dry-brushed with Graveyard Earth, followed by progressively lightened mixtures of Graveyard and Kommando Khaki. The Interior and cockpit are Codex grey with highlights of Fortress grey.

Preparing for the new Guard Codex

Well, I've been planning to start a new IG army using the Vostroyans that my wife bought for me a while back. Once I heard that there was a new codex in the works, I decided to wait and see what I could make using the new list. My goal is a low model count at 2000 pts -- in other words LOTS of vehicles. Also I'm looking to play with some models I never went in for with my Cadians (like the Ogryns). So here are two lists I'm kicking around:

Thoughts? Also looking for conversion ideas for the out-flankers: I'm looking for something with a less heavily armored look than the Vossies, but will seem thematically related.
